A.A. Allen was born in 1835, and became well known as an art critic and author of several books on the subject. His well-known works include Art in Athens (1870), The Art of Greece (1870), Art of Rome (1872), and The Art of Greece and the Art of Rome (1873). He kept a small record of his own thoughts on philosophy, psychology, and religion which is occasionally published under the title "The Journal of A.A
Allen." This is a fascinatingly odd and fascinatingly intimate commentary on life and art.
